What is being bought

A block of one-to-one teaching in one named subject at one named level, delivered online by Mrs Leah Burgess personally and by nobody else. Blocks are sold by the teaching week: six, twelve or twenty-four of them. A teaching week contains a live one-to-one session with Leah, practice set by her for that week, and that practice marked by her hand and returned before the next session. School holidays are not teaching weeks and are not counted against a block; a block pauses over them and resumes afterwards, and teaching does not run over Christmas or during August. The subject, the level, the examination board and the number of teaching weeks are confirmed in writing before the first session. Sessions are ordinarily weekly at a time agreed with the family, and the pattern of the week and the deadline for returning set work are set out in writing on acceptance and may change on reasonable notice.

University admissions coaching

A separate service from the school-age teaching, priced by the hour rather than by the teaching week. A single session is £275; a block of five is £995, which is £199 an hour; a block of ten is £1,595, which is £159.50 an hour. An hour is a live one-to-one session with Leah, with any draft sent beforehand read and annotated before it and written notes afterwards, at no additional charge. Hours are used at whatever pace the deadlines require, may be spent on either side of the 15 October UCAS deadline, and expire twelve months after purchase. A session may be rescheduled once with two days’ notice; one missed without notice is treated as used. Unused whole hours are refunded on request at any time within those twelve months. Coaching is offered in humanities, modern languages, English and the social sciences, and is not offered in Maths or the sciences. It does not include preparation for admissions tests. No offer, place or outcome is promised, and the practice is not affiliated with or endorsed by any university.

Fees and cancellation

Teaching is priced by the teaching week and sold only in blocks. A block of six weeks is £705 at GCSE and £795 at A-Level. A block of twelve is sold at fifteen per cent below twice the six-week rate — £1,199 at GCSE and £1,352 at A-Level — and a block of twenty-four at twenty-five per cent below four times it: £2,115 at GCSE and £2,385 at A-Level. The rate is the same for every subject at a given level. Where a student takes any two subjects alongside each other, each subject’s block is charged at ninety per cent of its usual price — the ten per cent applies to both blocks and is taken after the block-length discount. The two blocks need not be the same length, and the two subjects may be any combination offered. Every figure is confirmed in writing before payment is taken.

A block is payable in full before its first session. Blocks are not sold in instalments, there is no credit agreement, and nothing renews automatically: a further block is a new agreement. Unused teaching weeks expire twelve months after purchase.

Because a block is bought at a distance you may cancel within fourteen days and be refunded in full. Where teaching weeks have been taught inside those fourteen days at your request, you are asking us to begin before the period ends and those weeks are charged for; the balance is refunded. After the fourteen days, unused whole teaching weeks are refunded on request at any time within the twelve months. If we end the arrangement, every unused teaching week is refunded in full.

Mock Paper, Marked: cancellation

You may cancel your booking for a full refund at any time before your paper has been sent to you. By booking, you ask us to begin writing your paper straight away, within the usual 14-day cancellation period. Once the paper has been sent to you, the service has begun and the booking can no longer be cancelled for a refund. If for any reason we cannot provide the paper, we will refund you in full.

Missed sessions

A session missed without notice is treated as used, and so is a teaching week in which set work is not returned. A session cancelled with two days’ notice is rescheduled, up to twice in a block of six weeks and pro rata in a longer one. Illness is treated sensibly and does not count against that. Where Leah cancels, or where set work is not returned to you in time to be of use, the week is rescheduled at no cost and does not count against that allowance.

Work that is not the child’s own

Work brought to a session, and practice returned for marking, must be the student’s own, written unaided and without generated text. Where we believe it is not, we say so to the parent, and the session is spent on work the student can account for. Sessions are not used to produce work for submission elsewhere, the practice Leah sets is written for her and not for a school, and no work produced in a session is written by Leah on a student’s behalf. A second occasion ends the arrangement, with every unused teaching week refunded.

What we do not promise

No grade, no examination result, no place at any school or university. We promise the teaching described above, delivered by the person named, and nothing about the outcome. Anybody who promises you the outcome is selling something else.

Work and copyright

The student owns what the student writes. Titles, reading lists, marking and reports remain ours and are for your family’s use rather than for circulation. Nothing a child writes is published without a parent’s written permission.

Complaints and law

Write to Leah and you will have a reply within five working days. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and nothing in them affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
